I don't know why I told you my sister thought I bought the platter. I thought that was funny. It was way better than anything I could have afforded to buy!

I don't have a blog so am not in the game (although I will happily trade you something) but it reminds me of something we did for a few years in my extended family. One person did a random drawing so each person (by proxy) drew one other person's name, sent each person only the name of the person they were assigned to make something for, and we all made a gift for the person whose name we drew.
So each of us got a big surprise on Christmas as we knew neither what it was or who it was from until we opened it. One year I made a ceramic platter for my sister. She thought I had cheated and bought it for months until she happened to look a the back and saw that I had inscribed a dedication to her under the glaze.
Another year the same sister made me a bedspread that I used until the lining was in shreds and it was so stained by children and pets having had so much fun on it than it was twice as bad as the one I had been so desperate to replace. But this one was retired with love, not haste.
Thank you for reminding me how sweet it is to take time to make things and share them.

I've always envied those who could knit, sew and work with materials. I've never really been able to. :p

This is an excellent idea and hopefully I'll be able to remember to post the same on my own journal--even though my hand made goodies will most probably be cookies!
