I am James Whitmore’s granddaughter, brother of Howard, Harvey, John, Helen and Florence Whitmore. Thank you for sharing this letter. My grandfather has never talked much about his brother. I visit Howard’s gravestone when I walk through the Ashland cemetery.

Hi, I just bought one on ebay omgosh I hope I did the right thing. I spent too much but it is made the same year I was born so I was digging that enough to pay extra. I wish I knew more about what attachments I can start to look for, a lot of them don’t mention what machine they work on, any ideas? Hope this puppy works well I just spent 223.04 I hope it will help me make my leather seat covers for my vintage rl 250 suzuki.

I just got one at Goodwill this weekend for <19.00, I am in love I was so excited I played with it at home until I got a headache from excitement! What I really want and will find one day is the 500A Singer Rocketeer. For fun do a search(Google) on it !!!!!

If you’re concerned about aimless wandering, it may be time to stop. organize your time by periods of the day, for example, sketching, designing, playing in the morning; production work in the afternoon.

I work on one area of production one week of the month. So scarves one week, yardage the next week, quilt projects the third week and one week to play.

The design time is crucial, day in and day out for at least two hours every day. Discipline creates great craftswomanship.

i think you might be underrating the value of “aimless wandering”. i’m always looking for more time to do exactly that because for me, it’s where i find i do some of my most important work. things experimented with during aimless wandering often bloom into something very directed-for example, the shibori ribbon and flowers….
-taking a break here while i decide WHAT to pack next!!

For those of you who have been following the kitty blogs on this space let me share with you something more about the asshat cat. I went away for the weekend last weekend. Leaving enough food, beverage, and clean potty for the kitty above and his fat brother. And never the less “punished me” for my absence. Not by scratching anything, tipping over anything glass, or coughing something up from their bowels. But by peeing in their water dish. Because THAT makes sense. If any of the nutty scarf lady’s artist friends miss her kitty blogs, I shall be happy to share more daily ditties in the adventures of the asshat cat.

The discharge fumes reminds of when my best friend Laurey and I were in highschool, and I visited when her mom was dyeing some fabric (she was a costumer). My friend said that her mom was sick, and that she was doing the discharging today……So I walk into the house and was hit with this AWFUL smell that made me gag, and I thought, “O my gosh, poor Kelly, I hope I never get sick and have discharge like that!” But then Laurey showed me what the discharge was……………I can still remember the smell, ugh!

wow i love it i love origami and just started to work with fabric trying to get my head around it with keeping the folds just that when it gets wet with the fabric stiffener the folds un fold!!
